False Comforts

Another reason that casting your cares or receiving healing doesn’t work is that you’re actually holding on to those cares and afflictions

Why would anyone hold on to them?

Because they provide a false comfort – i.e. comfort that seems good and perhaps even pleasurable, but ultimately is unprofitable, and not of God

All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify. (1Corinthians 10:23)

For example, using illness to get out of doing something you don’t want to do

Or holding on to our anger or bitterness because we don’t want to forgive someone in order to enjoy the perverse sense of satisfaction it gives us

Or continuing to do something that’s fun but is spiritually unhealthy

Satan will always try to induce you to receive a false comfort so as to further build up a stronghold within you

Likewise, if God wants you to do something that makes you afraid, Satan will offer you an excuse or a lie to justify or rationalize why it’s okay not to do it – another false comfort

Accepting Satan’s alternative reinforces the stronghold of fear within you

And you wind up doubly distressed because you didn’t do what God wanted you to do, but you did do what Satan wanted you to do – a lose/lose situation

The solution?

Renounce the false comfort and ask Jesus to be your strength in giving up it up

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” (2Corinthians 12:9)
